Some would call them Dark Elves. Avens are an ancient race that has been on the verge of extinction for hundreds of years. There is few and far between of the Avenians left. And even more so are their settlements, which are usually made of dark magic and are very hard to find in the first place.

Avens are known for their magic, in all fields but most deal with Necromancy. They more or less deal with the raw forms of magic like sorceress'. So more or less the real deal unlike the Geon the students of the academy do. However Avens are somewhat "immortal" so the Magic does not corrupt them as it does to mortals such as Humans. It is said that they, in the beggining, were the first users of magic in itself. However, the only proof of that could only be found in their settlements inside their immense libraries.

Along side the magic, Avens are greatly known for their battlemages, warriors that can obtain the powers of the elements and use it in the battlefield. These battlemages were not dress in robes and equiped with a sword. No, these mages were heavily armoured with plate armour, and had weapons of every kind. All enchanted of course.

The reason being that they now reside in the hidden settlements that they do now is because they sided with War. since he himself was a Aven that acended to be a god. Many went into hiding after the Yararian War. However many of the original battlemages that faught through the Crusades with the Horsemen and through the Yararian war as well, along with many other races, became dreadnaughts. And were cursed to walk the lands as an undead. Many of what is left of the Dreadnaughts however are the last few of the Aven Battlemages that served the Horsemen so long ago.
